Tyrone's Salsa Fargo

Tyrone's Salsa Fargo

Although it was not the first drop-bar 29er mountain bike, the Fargo is arguably one of the most notable additions to the category. Having been in Salsa’s lineup for approaching two decades, the Fargo has been field tested by riders in every kind of scenario you can imagine. Proving itself over the years, the Fargo has become a cult classic for both loaded, long distance bikepacking and unloaded, rugged day riding. With ample mounting points, riders have hauled huge amounts of gear on both long and short expeditions, depending on their Fargo’s to carry what they need whilst pleasantly handling the terrain ahead. Whether fully loaded or stripped bare, owners have sung high praises of the Fargo’s exceptionally comfortable and predictable ride feel, while consistently noting its versatility as a true do-it-all adventure bike.

Despite staying relatively unchanged, the Salsa Fargo has received a few modern upgrades. The latest Fargo’s have a suspension corrected fork and front and rear boost spacing for additional tire widths. New models also feature Alternator 1.0 dropouts with flat-mount brake compatibility and adjustable wheelbase lengths. Setting the dropouts all the way forward shortens the rear end for a more quick and nimble handling experience, whereas setting them all the way back allows for more stability. The introduction of the Alternator 1.0 dropouts also means you can run your Fargo as a singlespeed, belt drive or adjust its boost spacing for a Rohloff.  20 years young, the Fargo stands strong in its roots and proves time and time again that it is a top choice for dependability, versatility and future proofing yourself against the constant nagging need for a new bike.

Nearing the end of the season, and with only a handful of Fargo’s left, we sat down with long term Fargo owner and rider, Tyrone Siglos to chat about all things adventure.
